Selectmen's Update: April 27, 2021
Happy *almost* Town Meeting! This Saturday, May 1st at 10:00 A.M.
First and foremost, the Selectmen are thrilled to announce the newest member of Team Sandwich: Lochlan Alan Berg, born to Courtney Delaney and Asa Berg, on April 21, 2021. All are doing wonderfully well, and as you can imagine, that child is adorable. Courtney will be out on Parental Leave until late July, leaving the Selectmen’s Office in Cathy’s and Kelly’s capable hands.
The Selectmen discussed employee matters during their work session and did a final review of the Town Warrant.
Tax Credit and Exemption applications were due on April 15th. The Selectmen started their review and approvals of these applications, having a deadline of July 1st to do so. Last night the Selectmen approved six Veteran’s Tax Credits (providing a $500 credit to their tax bill each year) and one Total Disability Veteran’s Tax Credit (providing a $4,000 credit to their tax bill each year). The Selectmen also granted tax exemption to four religious and educational organizations which meet the statutory eligibility requirements.
The Town Moderator, Assistant Moderator and Town Clerk joined the Selectmen to discuss Town Meeting plans and protocols for this Saturday morning. All agreed it best to hold the meeting in the Craft Building on the Fairgrounds in case of poor weather and to provide the best access to all residents. Discussion of details followed:
- All Town Meeting attendees are to use the Fairgrounds Squam Lake Road entrance only. Parking Attendants and Police will be available to direct parking. Handicap parking will be available in front of the building.
- Masks are required. There will be an area provided in the building to accommodate those who cannot or will not wear masks.
- Chairs will be set up with appropriate social distancing spacing.
Remember to read through the Town Warrant Narrative on pages 48-51 in the Town Report. We hope you find it helpful and can answer some of your questions on the Warrant Articles. Please bring your Town Report on Saturday if you have already picked one up. It’s also a good idea to read through the proposed Noise Ordinance which will be addressed in Article 5. It’s on the Town’s website or you can read it here
This Town Meeting will certainly be a unique one! The only other Saturday Town Meeting in recent history occurred at the Town Garage when residents were voting on installing the Town sewer system in the village back in the 80’s.
The Selectmen reviewed a Wetlands Permit for a 3-slip dock installation on Metcalf Road and two Shoreland Permit Applications for the building of structures within 250-feet of the shoreline. The Selectmen were also notified by the NH Department of Revenue of the 2020 Town valuation now that our Equalization Ratio has been finalized. This valuation amount is used to determine the Town’s portion of our contribution to the County, School District and State Education taxes.
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday for Town Meeting. There should be quite a bit of activity in the village this weekend! A welcome change after our pandemic year!
