Selectmen's Update: October 14, 2021

The Board held a Tuesday work session and regular meeting last night due to the holiday weekend. The Board discussed general application procedures for the Zoning and Planning Boards and employee supervision.

In the regular meeting, the Board signed the AP and payroll manifests and approved the appointment of Robert Buderi as a Trustee of Trust Funds. There are still vacancies for alternate members of the Zoning Board and Trustees of Trust Funds.

The Board continued review of a draft easement that would permit the NH Electric Cooperative to build a broadband headend station on Map R1 Lot 31 (town property). The Board approved the draft easement, pending some revisions and legal review, for submission to the Planning Board and Conservation Commission. Once recommendations from the Planning Board and Conservation Commission are received, the Board will schedule two public hearings to discuss the easement prior to any formal approval, if decided.

The Board discussed employee contract discussions and their desire to review each Department Head’s job description in contract conversations.

The Board revisited their decision to extend Transfer Station Sunday hours earlier this summer; the Board agreed to continue extended hours (8 am – 4 pm) with periodic review depending upon traffic.

The Board reviewed correspondence regarding Household Hazardous Waste Collection days from our Lakes Region Planning Commissioners. Please feel free to share feedback with our office so we can improve communications and procedures if needed!

The Board reviewed an inquiry from a Tamworth Committee regarding interest in building a regional recycling facility; the Board will invite the Committee Chairman to a future Selectmen’s meeting to gather further information.

The Board approved the recommendation of Louis Brunelle as the Town Health Officer for a three-year term; Louis has previous experience serving in a similar capacity for the Town.

As a reminder, there are several important upcoming dates:

  • October 21st is the last day to submit a sealed bid for any of the three Town-owned parcels currently posted for sale; the Board will open sealed bids during their regular meeting on October 25th.
  • The Board will also be kicking off their October 25th Regular Meeting with public hearings to discuss the acceptance and spending of Northern Border Regional Commission and American Rescue Plan Act funds. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments.
  • The Board will next meet on October 19th for their Work Session and at 4:30 pm for a Budget Advisory Committee meeting.

Lastly, the Board would like to congratulate the Sandwich Fair Association, emergency service personnel, and all volunteers that made this Fair Weekend a success!

Regards,

Board of Selectmen
