2019 Programs, Events, and Projects:

Swim Lesson Information

Lessons will run 7/1 – 8/1
$35 for 5 weeks
($10 for 3rd child)
or participate for $10 / week

Sandwich Parks and Recreation will be offering swim lessons again this summer.  Lessons will be Mondays – Thursdays in the morning. This year former Sandwich Aquatic Swim School (Switzer’s) instructor and former Sandwich Recreation swim instructor, Laura Thorndike, will create a swim lesson program with head lifeguard Sam Seeley.  Laura will not be leading the lessons, but will be creating swim lessons program for our instructors.   Our lessons will be taught by head lifeguard Sam Seeley and lifeguards Raven Strother, Alyssa Floyd, and Aidan Carney. We expect an increased number of participants with the closing of Switzer’s, and Laura’s experience and expertise will enhance our ability to handle more participants and develop plans to maximize students progress through the summer.

The lesson schedule may change in order accommodate the most families while still delivering quality lessons to all the participants.  We will start by structuring our lessons at the posted times, but we may modify lesson times  if registration numbers exceed a safe and acceptable class size.  For example, we may add a minnows class at 9:00am, or 11:00am if that age group has more registrants than would be appropriate for the posted time. We will not have more than 12 students in any class, but if we have only eight “guppies” and an overflow of “fish”, we may have four “fish” at 10:20. It may also be necessary to limit registrations, so please register early to secure your place.  Registration priority will be given to families of Sandwich residents and taxpayers.

All classes will start Monday - Thursday at these times:
MINNOWS     (4+5) …….. 9:40 - 10:10  Level I
(must be 4yrs old by Oct. 1 2019)
GUPPIES         (6+7)
……...10:20 -10:50   Level 2
FISH                (8+9)
….…11:00 - 11:30 Level 3
SHARKS       (10-13)
..…..…. 9:00 - 9:30 Level 4

While we use age at the start of our program, ability and experience may require participants to be moved to a more appropriate class.  We will evaluate your child closely and recommend/require any appropriate changes to their class placement.  Payment should never be an obstacle to participate in activities, please inquire about  The Sandwich Quimby Youth fund, and the Parks and Recreation Scholarship program if you would like financial assistance.
